About us
Hello and welcome to Amethyst class. We are a Year 2 Class and our teachers are called Mrs. Jennings (Mon-Weds) and Mrs. Lee (Thurs-Fri) We also have Miss Noor and Miss Fox working with us every day.
If you ever need to contact us, please catch us after school or write a note in your child’s planner.
Days to Remember
We are always excited for PE and our PE days are Monday and Thursday. It is important for all children to be in their PE Kits on these days. Hair needs to be tied back and all jewellery needs to be removed before school. Trainers are essential for outdoor PE, rather than plimsolls please.
We LOVE reading in Amethyst Class and we encourage the children to read at least 3 times a week at home too. Our book changing days are Monday and Thursday.
We also visit the school library on a Friday and will be bringing our library books home to share with you.
Home Learning
Homework is obviously the best way for you to support your child at school. Reading with your child regularly, asking comprehension questions and helping with spellings are essential.
Spellings and other home learning activities will be sent home on a Wednesday.
Autumn Topic – Me and World I Live In
We are exploring the human and physical geography of Chelmsford and Rio De Janeiro and will be comparing their similarities and differences.
In Science we are learning about humans and animals and our basic needs: air, water, food, and shelter.
PSHE
This term we are focusing on, what makes me, me? The children will be encouraged to share things that make them feel happy and secure and will learn how to be respectful of other people’s differences, including their point of view.
English
In Year 2, we are learning to write sentences using the appropriate punctuation, we discuss our writing with others, and we read it aloud. We usually focus our writing on a particular text which can be fiction, non-fiction, or poetry.
Maths
At the start of year 2 we focus on number activities such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. When we become confident in number activities, we move on to other topics such as shape, geometry, and measurement. We follow the White Rose scheme to support your child which can be easily accessed online: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/
