Autumn 2020 – Information to follow
Autumn 2019 has kept Trinity Road School Council very busy with new and existing projects. We have kept up our planet friendly pledge by continuing to collect and recycle our used pens and even more books have been sent to worthwhile charities. Also, Key Stage 2 reps gave an assembly on ways in which we can tackle climate change at home. It was a really engaging and informative assembly with lots of handy hints to help everyone develop planet-friendly habits.
In October, we organised a food collection ahead of our annual Harvest Festival service at Trinity Road church. We were overwhelmed with donations ranging from tins to toothbrushes! The table was bursting with supplies and it took several return trips to get everything into the van! The donations were collected by a volunteer from Chelmsford Food Bank and gratefully received by local families in need.
Our next project was gift shoe boxes for the charity Operation Christmas Child. We collected donations from Key Stage 2 children and made up 14 boxes to send away to children less fortunate than us. It was really fun filling the boxes with goodies and we are certain they will be loved by the children who open them!
In November, School Council reps from Years 1, 2 and 3 helped local council gardeners by planting spring bulbs in Lionmede Park. We had a lovely time using the dibbers and we look forward to seeing them in bloom next year.
So, after a busy year, we are really proud of our achievements. We have plenty lined up for next year too!
Trinity Road School Council would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Summer Term 2019 for our School Council was very busy and exciting! Our main focus is to reduce the amount of waste that we send to landfill sites each week. This definitely includes single use plastic. To do this, we had another talk from Suzanne, our link with Chelmsford City Council Recycling Services. She gave us plenty of inspiration to reduce our waste, such as introduce plastic recycling bins in every classroom and on the playground and to use plastic food bins in the KS1 classrooms. Also, we have recycled all our old pens – 4 whole boxes! Thanks to Mrs Morgan-Soane who delivered them to a recycle drop-off point in Colchester. We didn’t stop there! Staff cleared out cupboards and packaged up heaps of unused books to send to education charities around the world. Now we have more space for updated resources and our books can be reused. What a win-win situation!
We had a chat with 2 members of the PTA who have promised to work with us on reducing their use of non-recyclable plastic. We were delighted to see this in action during the Summer disco with recyclable plastic cups.
In July, we were really excited to host our School Council friends from Kelvedon Academy. We had a great day altogether, making reusable toys and sculptures out of plastic bottles, eating lunch outside and using the computer suite. It was a very memorable day and we thoroughly enjoyed exchanging new and exciting ideas to improve our schools.
One idea from Kelvedon was a School Council-run tuck shop and, in line with our eco-mission, we ran our first, zero plastic waste tuck shop in support of The Marine Conservation Society. We gave our tuck shop a catchy name: Ocean Guardians and, with help from Mrs Lawrence, we have created a beautiful sign to help advertise it. With queues nearly out the door, our pop-up tuck shop was a roaring (or perhaps splashing!) success! All packaging from the food sold was recycled so there was no waste produced. We were delighted to make over £60 which will go towards adopting a turtle and keeping our oceans clean and plastic-free.
We will be running another tuck shop during the Autumn Term – date to be announced soon.
School Council have worked so hard this year and thanks to their efforts, our school is a thriving place to be. We are looking forward to continuing and strengthening our eco-mission next year. Well done everyone!
Spring Term 2019
Trinity Road School Council have been very busy this term. We have been listening to suggestions from children in all classes and we are working together with the staff to find new and exciting ways to improve our school and its environment.
To help us with our mission, we were invited to visit a school in the neighbouring town of Kelvedon. What a fantastic day! We left school just before 9am and travelled by train. Upon arrival, we met Kelvedon Academy’s School Council and had a tour of their brightly-decorated classrooms, outdoor areas and sports facilities. We spent time in their classes learning Computing and French and we had a fun-filled lunchtime playing table tennis, sitting in their beach area and reading quietly in their chill-out club. We came away with plenty of ideas and suggestions and we will soon be giving an assembly to share our thoughts.
Also, during Science Week Years 3 and 4 had a visit from Suzanne, a member of Chelmsford City Waste and Recycling Department. Suzanne is keen to work with our School Council to help develop lots of eco-friendly ways to improve our school. We are very excited about this opportunity and we are looking forward to learning more.
Watch this space!
